Saracens' Jacques Burger has been handed a one-week suspension for his hit on Maxime Machenaud in last Sunday's Champions Cup game in Paris.

Burger faced a European Professional Club Rugby panel on Thursday and pleaded guilty to the offence of striking. The incident occurred in Saracens' 12-11 win over Racing on Sunday.

The disciplinary panel said Burger was "reckless" and the incident "warranted a red card" and hit him with a two-week suspension. However, on account of his guilty plea and "early expression of remorse", they reduced it by a week.

The suspension means Burger will miss Saracens' match against Leicester this weekend but is free to play in their Champions Cup semi-final against Clermont Auvergne.
