Super Rugby Preview: Round 10

The Brumbies have been rocked by further bad injury news, with Wallabies scrum-half Nic White sidelined for three weeks with an ankle injury.

Stephen Larkham named White on the bench for the Super Rugby round 10 fixture against Melbourne Rebels in Canberra on Saturday, with Michael Dowsett handed a rare starting berth, but the France-bound half-back was subsequently taken out of the matchday squad with what Fairfax Media has reported as "a niggling ankle problem".

"The extent of White's injury is not yet known, but he could miss the next three matches before the Brumbies fly to South Africa," Fairfax reported.

Former Australia Under-20 scrum-half Joe Powell has replaced White on the bench for the fixture against the Rebels.

White joins James Dargaville and Wallabies team-mates Matt Toomua, Scott Sio, Tevita Kuridrani and Jesse Mogg on the sidelines, and the team's growing injury list has great potential to damage their Super Rugby title aspirations. The Brumbies are top of the Australian Super Rugby conference, and second overall, seven points clear of reigning champions New South Wales, but Toomua and Sio, key players, are each flagged for a six-week absence due to their injuries sustained against the Blues in Auckland on Friday.

Toomua faces 4-6 weeks on the sidelines with an ankle syndesmosis injury, while Sio is looking at 6-8 weeks out with only nine rounds of the regular season remaining. Kuridrani is yet to return to training after sustaining a shoulder injury against the Waratahs in March, while Mogg was involved in a non-contact session this week.
