Springboks fly-half Handré Pollard will head straight from the Rugby World Cup to Japan after signing a three-month contract with NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes.

The 21-year-old will be in Japan from November through to the end of January with a view to featuring for the Bulls at the start of the 2016 Super Rugby season.

"Handré is contracted to the Bulls till the end of 2017 and we are already in talks, with assistance from SARU, to extend that to 2019," said Bulls high performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg. "Handré had a clause in his contract to go to Japan and we are happy to release him for that. In the end, it will give us more leeway to keep Handré at the Vodacom Bulls for an extended period."

Pollard's move sees yet another one of South Africa's brightest talents opt to take up a short-term contract in the wake of the World Cup. On Monday Sharks flanker Marcell Coetzee confirmed he will play for Honda Heat club on a deal similar to Pollard's. Francois Hougaard, Pierre Spies and Pierre Spies will also all play in Japan following the World Cup.
