Bath have confirmed Carl Fearns will join French club Lyon this summer, a move that could pave the way for Taulupe Faletau's arrival at the west country side.

England Saxons No.8 Fearns played 73 times for Bath since joining from Sale Sharks in 2011 but revealed he was excited by the prospect of playing across the channel.

"I've had a fantastic four years at Bath during what has been a great time for the Club," said the 26-year-old. "Whilst I'm sad to be leaving my teammates and coaches here, I'm really looking forward to moving with my family to France and continuing my rugby career in a different environment."

Mike Ford, Bath Rugby Head Coach, said: "We're obviously disappointed to let Carl go, but he feels the time is right to make a change, and we respect that. He's a talented and committed player, and I'm sure he'll be a great success in France."

Bath have been heavily linked with a move for Wales star Faletau since missing out on original target Duane Vermeulen to Toulon.
