Adam Jones reveals how he wept after being dropped by Wales

Adam Jones has revealed how he "sobbed uncontrollably" after being dropped by Wales.

The former British and Irish Lion was axed from the Wales squad after the first Test against South Africa in June 2014, with a series of poor performances on that tour bringing an abrupt end to the prop's 95-cap international career.

And in extracts from his new book, 'Bomb', which is being serialised by WalesOnline, Jones revealed the emotional way in which he dealt with being cut from the team by Welsh forwards coach Robyn McBride.

Jones, who has now joined Harlequins, received a call from McBride informing him he had been dropped, before penning an impassioned letter to head coach Warren Gatland.

"I never sent it," Jones wrote. "In fact, I never finished it. I was sobbing way before I reached the end."

In the letter to Gatland, Jones wrote: "'Dear Warren, What the heck are you thinking? I can't believe you've dropped me. It's an absolute joke.

"'I'm clearly some kind of scapegoat for the defeat in South Africa. I admit I wasn't at my best in the first Test, but was I really the only player to play badly?'

"'Was dropping me the best way to man-manage one of your most loyal and experienced players? Talk about kicking a man when he's down.'

"I wrote the letter. But I never sent it. In fact, I never finished it."

Jones' 11-year Wales career included three Six Nations Grand Slams and appearances at three Rugby World Cups, including the fourth-place finish in 2011.
