The Stormers continue to suffer off-season setbacks with backline trio Damian de Allende, Cornal Hendricks and Jaco Taute all set for extended stints on the sidelines.

The Cape Town side have endured a difficult run since Eddie Jones departed for England with interim coach Robbie Fleck having to build a squad with key players away in Japan and others on Blitzboks Sevens duty.

Springboks Schalk Burger and Eben Etzebeth have since returned from Asia while Cheslin Kolbe and Juan de Jongh have been given some time off following the Wellington and Sydney legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Those four players are all a chance to line up in round one against the Bulls but de Allende, Hendricks and Taute are likely to play no part for at least the first six weeks of Super Rugby.

Springboks centre de Allende and midfield partner Taute have both suffered serious knee injuries while Hendricks is believed to be battling a heart condition first spotted at a Blitzboks training camp.

The Stormers continue their pre-season preparations with a trial against Argentina newcomers, the Jaguares, in Cape Town on Saturday.
