Bryan Habana's Olympic dream is on track after he impressed South Africa Sevens coach Neil Powell in his first Sevens tournament for 12 years in Las Vegas.

Habana's previous two Springbok Sevens appearances came in 2004 in Wellington and Los Angeles but he was one of the star attractions at the Las Vegas leg of the World Sevens Series last weekend where his South Africa side finished third.

The Springboks star played in all six of their matches - starting the semifinal against Australia and their bronze final against the USA - and marked his return to the circuit with a try against Canada in their opener.

"I am really happy with his [Habana's] first tournament," Powell said. "It is always tough to come in, as Sevens is a totally different game to 15s and I am really happy with the way he played it.

"He made some good decisions in defence; he still made one or two mistakes but that's to be expected as he doesn't have the experience in Sevens that he does in 15s. He will get that experience the more he plays."

While Habana was one of the highest profile names on show in Las Vegas, his team-mate Seabelo Senatla stole the show with his 11-try haul.

Habana will now stay with the squad as they prepare for this weekend's next leg in Canada with the end goal a place in South Africa's squad for the Olympics.
