Gerber makes unlikely comeback
March 10, 2000

Danie Gerber, considered by many to be the greatest centre to have played the game will be making an unlikely comeback this evening at the age of 41.

The former Sprinkbok is assistant coach at the Mpumalanga Pumas, whose playing ranks are currently decimated by injury. Such is the extent of their troubles that Gerber will appear on the bench for the Vodacom Cup game against the Gauteng Falcons.

"Two of our young centres are injured so Danie will be on the bench and will definitely get a run," said coach Chris Grobler. "Danie has been training with the squad and can still show the youngsters a thing or two."
