Walker unstoppable against the Sharks

Andrew Walker scored a hat-trick of tries to lead the ACT Brumbies to an emphatic 51-10 win over South Africa's Sharks in a one-sided Super 12 rugby union match at Bruce Stadium on Friday.

The former rugby league star powered the Australian side to their first win in this year's competition and hand the Sharks their third straight defeat.

Walker, who also scored two tries in the Brumbies opening round loss to the Auckland Blues, took his tally to five from just two matches with three first-half tries.

The ACT fullback scored his first after just 50 seconds and quickly added another pair as the Brumbies galloped away to a 29-3 lead within the first 18 minutes.

"They gave us a rugby lesson," Sharks' coach Hugh Reece-Edwards said.

With the match as good as over, ACT coach Eddie Jones used the opportunity to rest some of his key players in the second half, although the Brumbies continued to pile on the points.

Winger Mark Bartholomeusz finished with two tries while World Cup tourists Joe Roff and Jim Williams notched one apiece.

The Brumbies, one of the pre-season favourites for this season's title, finished with seven tries in all to pick up a bonus point while the South Africans' lone reply came from Carl van Rensberg.

"Our object was to move the ball wide and it paid dividends for us early on but I was very pleased with our defence," Jones said.

"They (the Sharks) had the ball for most of the second half and we only allowed them a single try."
