New South Wales have recalled Wallaby second row Tom Bowman and former captain Michael Brial into a 25-man squad for Friday night's Super 12 rugby match against the Auckland Blues in Auckland.
Bowman returns following wrist surgery in the off-season and flanker Brial is back from a knee injury. Coach Ian Kennedy promised changes would be made after last Saturday's dismal 26-19 loss to the lowly Sharks but delayed the inevitable axings with the starting team expected to be announced on Thursday.
The only player missing from last Saturday's team was second rower Peter Besseling who suffered a tear of the medial ligament in his knee and will be out for up to six weeks. Prop Richard Harry, who missed the loss to the Cats with a calf strain, was named in the squad which will be cut to 24 on Tuesday. The team travels to New Zealand on Wednesday.
NSW squad - Al Baxter, Cameron Blades, Tom Bowman, Michael Brial, Matthew Burke, Brendan Cannon, Mark Crick, Matt Dowling, Manuel Edmonds, Nathan Grey, Richard Harry, Jason Little, David Lyons, Daniel Manu, Rod Moore, Sam Payne, Stu Pinkerton, Scott Staniforth, Marc Stcherbina, Tiaan Strauss, Christian Warner, Phil Waugh, John Welborn, Jono West, Chris Whitaker.
