The Auckland Rugby Football Union Board today confirmed Maurice Trapp as its Deputy Chairman.

Trapp has been a member of the Board since 1997 and is a long-standing member of the Auckland Rugby Football Union. He played 38 games for Auckland and was coach of Auckland from 1987 to 1991, during which time 21 of his players reached All Black status, there were 37 successful Ranfurly Shield defences, and two years with 100% win records (1990 and 1991).

Chairman of the Board, Reuben O'Neill, said he was delighted with the appointment.

"Maurice will play a significant role in helping the Union move forward and develop as the professional environment matures," he said. "His experience in the rugby environment, combined with his excellent business record, mean he is well-placed to provide important guidance and support to the Board, the CEO and ultimately, to all those involved with the Union."

Trapp, who is also Chair of the New Zealand Rugby Foundation, said he was delighted to be appointed.

"I have a passion for Auckland Rugby to succeed at all levels and my aim will be to ensure that we can create the environment where that is allowed to happen," he said. "The pace of change has increased since the advent of professionalism and this dynamic continues to push all Unions to find new ways of developing the game and players in our regions.

"I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to help the Union succeed in this environment, and to contributing in a new way to the sport that has given me so much pleasure in my own life."
