Callard brothers square up for the first time
October 13, 2000

The Callard brothers, Nigel and Jon, will oppose each other for the first time ever this evening as their respective sides, Newport and Bath, clash in the Heineken Cup.

"When the draw was made we formulated plans for this game but the telephone has been quiet this week. There's been no communication." elder brother Nigel told the Western Mail.

Nigel knows who is under the most pressure tonight - Jonathan. "It is easier for me because I am not under the same spotlight. I am a member of the coaching team at Newport, not head coach.

"He is in a massive role. He has not spoken to me this week and he might not speak to me after the game!"

Of the task in hand Nigel said, "As long as we do not make any mistakes we can beat Bath. In bursts we can be outstanding, but we have to sustain our pattern of play for the full 80 minutes.

"We cannot afford to give points away because they are a good side. We are not under any illusions about their ability and I don't think they are about us."
