October 31, 2000

While the Natal Sharks fans are still gnashing their teeth after the disappointment of losing the Bankfin Currie Cup Final to Western Province there is still a host of top class rugby awaiting them at Durban's Absa Stadium in the coming weeks.

On Saturday and Sunday 16 provincial unions will be testing their skills in the SARFU Sevens tournament. And two weeks later teams from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, France, England and Wales will join battle in the World Sevens tournament.

In the World Sevens event on Saturday and Sunday, November 18 and 19 the competing sides include teams from Portugal, Canada, Kenya, Georgia and Morocco among the elite rugby playing Nations.

Pool A has New Zealand, France, Portugal and Namibia with Pool B made up of Fiji, Canada, Wales and Kenya. Australia, Argentine, England and Zimbabwe make up Pool C while South Africa head Pool D along with Samoa, Georgia and Morocco.

The South African Sevens side will be chosen after this weekend's provincial sevens tournament on Sunday afternoon, but a star like Rodger Smith (pictured) is likely to feature.

The Pools' breakdown is as follows:

A: Boland Kavaliers, Free State Cheetahs, Eastern Province Invitation, Natal Sharks.

B: Border, Western Province, Falcons, Leopards.

C: Blue Bulls, Pumas, Lions, SWD Eagles.

D: Eastern Province, Western Province Invitation, Griqualand West, Northern Free State.

There will be 24 provincial games on Saturday from 10:00 am onwards with quarterfinals, semifinals and the final to be decided by early
Sunday afternoon
