Skinstad return put back again
November 2, 2000

Bob Skinstad's much-awaited comeback has been put on hold - again.

The SA Rugby Football Union announced on Wednesday that Skinstad would not put his knee to the test in a Sevens tournament this month, which he had hoped to do. Instead, next year's Super 12 has been set as the new provisional target for his return.

According to a website, a Sarfu spokesman said Skinstad's progress was satisfactory, but that the No 8 thought it unwise to risk his knee unnecessarily.

Writing in a recent internet column, Skinstad said: "I could probably step on to a rugby field tomorrow and play a full game without any discomfort, but there's no sense in pushing it; why risk an entire career for a few extra matches? The day I start playing again will be the day I feel 100 percent ready, physically and psychologically."

Skinstad hasn't played since the 1999 World Cup semifinal against Australia. He wasn't a success at the World Cup and returned too soon after injuring his knee in a car accident after a Super 12 match against the Crusaders at Newlands in April last year.
