New-look Boks kick off tour
November 5, 2000

New Springbok coach Harry Viljoen has picked eight new caps for Wednesday's clash against Argentina A in Tucuman.

Viljoen has left one place open on the bench, which could allow for Percy Montgomery to gain some valuable game time at fly-half ahead of next Sunday's Test against the Pumas in Buenos Aires.

Gavin Passens, Chris Rossouw, AJ Venter, Hendrik Gerber, Thando Manana, Hottie Louw, Quinton Davids and Carel van der Merwe will all make their Bok debut. On the substitutes bench, Ricardo Loubscher, Craig Davidson, Johan Wasserman, Lawrence Sephaka, Victor Matfield and Delarey du Preez will be hoping to get a first run in the Bok jersey.

With Western Province's Charl Marais being included in the midweek team as hooker, the Natal Sharks' John Smit seems set to start his first match for the Boks at No 2.

The team will be captained by WP scrum-half Dan van Zyl, while Braam van Straaten, a Bok fly-half under former coach Nick Mallett, will do duty at inside centre.
