Henry gives Jenkins the nod
November 24, 2000

Neil Jenkins has won the Wales fly-half battle with Arwel Thomas for Sunday's Millennium Stadium Test match against South Africa.

Jenkins, international rugby's world record points scorer on 991 for Wales and the British Lions, is recalled after missing comfortable victories over Samoa and the USA.

Swansea playmaker Thomas, despite delivering impressive performances in both games, must content himself with a place among the substitutes.

Also behind the scrum, Jenkins' Cardiff colleague Gareth Thomas returns, taking over from Allan Bateman on the right wing.

Bateman is switched to his favoured position of outside centre, deputising for the injured Mark Taylor alongside Scott Gibbs in midfield.

Up-front, Swansea's Darren Morris moves from loosehead prop to tighthead, making room for Peter Rogers' return. Ben Evans drops out.

In Taylor's absence - he underwent knee surgery earlier this week - Llanelli number eight Scott Quinnell is the new skipper.
