Solomons eyes overseas position
November 27, 2000

Stormers coach Alan Solomons is considering pursuing other options after completion of the 2001 Super 12.

His contract with the Stormers expires at the end of May and there is no certainty that his services will be retained. There was already talk this year of a drive to replace him with Western Province mentor Gert Smal.

Former Bok assistant coach Solomons told Die Burger: "With the retirement of Nick Mallett as coach of the Springboks, my only link with SA rugby is my involvement with the Stormers. This contract expires at the end of May upon completion of the Super 12.

"I've already received offers from several overseas clubs - one of which was the post as coach of Ulster in Ireland. We'll be having talks soon, but I can't talk about my plans at this stage.

"I will first complete my commitments with the Stormers. Because I would like to stay involved in rugby, I will definitely consider other options. I don't know what the future holds for me in South Africa and thus have to keep my options open."
