Delport to miss remainder of tour
November 27, 2000

The Springboks suffered a huge setback in their last-gasp 23-13 over Wales on Sunday when fullback Thinus Delport was ruled out of the tour with concussion. The powerful runner will miss the remaining games against England and the Barbarians.

Wing Pieter Rossouw pulled a hamstring in the 21st minute and was replaced by Chester Williams, but according to coach Harry Viljoen it's nothing serious. "Pieter pulled a hamstring and Thinus Delport got a bump against the head. Pieter is not serious, but Thinus has concussion and will be out for the next three weeks."

The changes to the backline after Delport went off were purely as a result of his injury and not a tactical manoeuvre, the coach said. He added that it was possible Van Straaten may start at flyhalf against England on Saturday, with Montgomery at the back. "There is the possibility, although there won't be many changes to the team."
