Springboks deny bust-up rumours

The Springbok management on Monday denied that there was a fall-out between players in the change room after Saturday's 25-17 defeat against England at Twickenham.

According to coach Harry Viljoen, they heard there was a report back home about a fracas in the cloakroom after the game. "There wasn't even a voice raised in the change room. Joost's father phoned and said there was a story doing the rounds.

"But I can assure you there wasn't even a voice raised and you can talk to the players about that. We have accepted the defeat and that people are starting those rumours is one of the biggest disappointments of this tour for me," the coach said.

"We are trying to build something special here and we are treating people as professionals, but then something like this happens."

Captain Andre Vos also expressed his unhappiness about the rumours. "The guys were upset, because to get a win in that game was important to us. Apparently there were stories going around about a fight in the change room, but that's the biggest load of rubbish I've ever heard in my life," he commented.

"As I said, the guys were upset, but no one raised his voice at any other person. I'm really upset something like that was even said or written about, but I don't really know the background to the whole story.

"The guys were upset - we've been away now for five weeks and worked really hard because we knew that this was going to be the big Test. But to suggest there was a fight is ridiculous," the No 8 said.

Prop Willie Meyer (pictured) was one of the last guys to leave the change room on Saturday night and he reiterated there was not a hint of dissent in the camp. "The guys were obviously disappointed, but the team spirit on this tour is better than on most I've been involved with before. I don't know anything about a fight and there was never even a suggestion of an argument," the player said.
