Blue Bulls gear up for 2001
December 14, 2000
The Blue Bulls announced a 39-man squad for the 2001 season on Wednesday and hope to improve on their poor form during 2000. The Blue Bulls beat Eastern Province in the Bankfin Cup, but that was scant reward for a province that won the Currie Cup as recently as 1998 and has grown accustomed to being regarded as one of the powerhouses of South African rugby. The Blue Bulls squad includes four Springboks who recently returned from an end-of-season tour of Europe and Argentina in Joost van der Westhuizen, Gavin Passens, Victor Matfield and Johan Wasserman. They have also recruited Fijian international Noah Soqueta. Former Bok assistant and Bulls Super 12 coach Heneyke Meyer has replaced Eugene van Wyk in the Blue Bulls hot-seat.
