Visagie hearing adjourned till new year
December 19, 2000

Western Province and Springbok prop Cobus Visagie was on Monday further frustrated in his efforts to find clarity on his future when his hearing was postponed until after the new year.

Visagie, who tested positive for a banned substance during the recent Bankfin Currie Cup season and subsequently missed the Springboks' end-of-season tour, would have been keen to get the hearings out of the way to concentrate on the upcoming Super 12.

Instead, it will only recommence at the end of January 2001 after his lawyers revealed the substance found in his blood may have been provided by Sarfu themselves. The Union's legal team has asked for a break to investigate the claims.

When asked about the further delay in proceedings on Monday, Visagie was clearly frustrated. "My employee, Sarfu, is accusing me," he told Die Burger. "This process (the hearing) has been going on for weeks and can even take months.

"It gets very annoying because it's difficult to do your job and prepare yourself for the upcoming season. This case must end now," he said.
