SARFU focused on World Cup Sevens
December 20, 2000

SARFU have thrown their complete support behind their challenge for the World Cup Sevens crown next month by insisting that all Springbok and Super 12 players are made available to coach Norman Mbiko.

"Sarfu made it clear that the World Cup sevens comes before Super 12," Mbiko told the Cape Argus. "However, the selectors must ensure we don't fall in the same trap as the New Zealanders when they selected stars like Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen for sevens and still lost."

Bobby Skinstad, Breyton Paulse, Pieter Rossouw, Marius Joubert (all Stormers), Andre Venter, Grant Esterhuizen, Thinus Delport (all Cats), Joost van der Westhuizen (Northern Bulls), Deon Kayser, Trevor Halstead and Albert van den Berg (all Sharks) have all been invited to the trials.

"I believe if we can take a strong squad to Argentina we have a good chance of making it through to the final," Mbiko said.

The camp starts on January 7.
