Ross blow for Brumbies
January 5, 2001
The Brumbies suffered a setback when promising prop Simon Ross was forced to announce his retirement. The 23-year-old Ross injured his back during a scrum training session last year. Medical advisers said he risked permanent injury and possible paralysis if he continued playing. Ross intends returning to Queensland to restart a plumbing business. A disappointed Ross, who joined the Brumbies from the Brothers club in Brisbane in 1999 and played eight matches, said: "I've got to face reality now and just pick up the pieces." The Brumbies begin their 2001 season with a trial against the Highlanders in New Zealand on February 3. |
