January 8, 2001

Wallaby scrumhalf George Gregan has been named captain of the ACT Brumbies for the 2001 Super 12 which gets under way late in February.

Gregan, 26, a foundation member of the side and Wallaby vice-captain for
four years, replaces Brett Robinson, who retired last year.

"It's a great honour for me personally to be taking over from Brett Robinson, who's been a great leader for the Brumbies over a number of years," the 61-Test veteran said Monday.Gregan has established himself as one of the game's outstanding personalities, but did not tour with the Wallabies to the UK at the end of 2000 because of injury.

The Brumbies' 2001 campaign begins in intriguing fashion, a home tie repeat of the 2000 final against three-times champions, the Canterbury Crusaders, on February 23.
