Monty happy in any position

Springbok and Western Province utility back Percy Montgomery on Monday indicated he has no problem switching positions in the backline.

The blond speedster, who started his international career under Carel du Plessies at centre, excelled at No 10 on the recently completed Bok year-end tour after a couple of seasons at fullback.

There has been a lot of talk recently whether Stormers coach Alan Solomons will look at the bigger picture and give Monty the opportunity to get more experience at No 10, or rather shift him back to his original spot at the back.

But Montgomery says he has no problem with where he plays. "It's not really my decision," he told Die Burger. "I don't mind where I play, but I will give my best in any position.

"I'm equally at home at flyhalf and fullback after I started my international career at centre. It was a bit of a struggle adapting to flyhalf on the Bok tour last year, but I enjoyed it. It was a huge challenge, but one I was comfortable with.

The WP star added that it was to his advantage being shifted around in the backline. "The more positions you play, the harder it is for the opposition to analyse your game. You must take every opportunity to keep the opposition guessing."
