Viljoen wants Percy at fly-half

Springbok manager Harry Viljoen has expressed his desire to see Percy Montgomery run out in the No 10 jersey for the Stormers this season.

Viljoen wants Montgomery, who played at flyhalf for the Boks on their year-end tour after a couple of seasons at fullback, to become comfortable and gain more experience in the position.

However, the Stormers had a lot of success last year with Braam van Straaten at No 10 at Monty at the back and whether coach Solomons looks at the bigger picture remains to be seen.

Viljoen said on Tuesday that he was keen to have a meeting with Solomons to give his opinion on certain players. "I haven't spoken to Solly yet, but I hope to do it soon," he told Die Burger. "I realise I can't prescribe to them what to do, but it's in South Africa's best interests to have Percy establish himself in that position."

The Stormers have a problem in that the two players Viljoen is eyeing for the flyhalf berth are both on their books. "Monty and Braam are the two players that I'm concentrating on with regards to this important position. But I'd really like to see Monty there. He is the one that has a lot to do with my plans for the future," he said.

The Stormers will announce their final squad on January 15 and start their campaign with a home game against the Cats on February 24.
