Stormers captain still to be named
January 11, 2001

There is still some uncertainty in the Stormers camp as to who will be appointed captain for the 2001 Super season.

Last season's captain Corne Krige seems the obvious choice, having led the "Men in Black" on a brilliant away leg that saw them beat both the Chiefs and Blues in New Zealand and finish fifth on the log.

But the return of the mercurial Bob Skinstad after a lengthy spell on the sidelines has started rumours that coach Alan Solomons may hand the leadership back to the former Bok No 8.

Skinstad got his chance to captain the side when Krige suffered a horrific knee injury two seasons ago, while Krige was handed the armband when Skinstad hurt his leg in the much-publicised car accident in 1999.

Bt Solomons emphasised that the final decision on who will lead the team would be his: "I have always made the decision and it will be the case again this time around," he told Die Burger.

"Since my days as coach of Ikeys I have made the decision on who would be captain. But everyone will have to wait until next week to see who it is."
