Skinstad takes one step at a time
January 18, 2001

Bob Skinstad has been included in the Springbok side for a workshop with Harry Viljoen, but the Stormers player says he is not looking beyond the Sevens World Cup next weekend.

"Right now I'm at the Sevens and the next step up is the World Cup," he told the Cape Argus. "After that, it is Super 12 and so on. It's all about taking graded steps at the moment."

"The Springbok place is still something I want," he said. "But I will have to see how the season goes before I aim at that."

Skinstad will be leaving with the rest of the South African Sevens team for Buenos Aires on Saturday. They play in the World Cup next weekend and Skinstad faces his first real test to see if he has recovered from the knee injury that sidelined him last season.

"I'm feeling good. We've really been loading on the fitness training lately, but I'm feeling a lot more comfortable than I was last week," Skinstad said.

The 32-man Springbok group will attend a national team workshop in Cape Town on 25 and 26 January.

The gathering will be one of several that will be held during the course of the Super 12. Viljoen, emphasising that an invitation to the workshops was not a selection guarantee, said the sessions would hopefully provide the continuity that has previously been lacking on a national front.
