Viljoen won't name back-up players
January 26, 2001

Harry Viljoen will not release the names of the players who will make up the fifth squad to be called up to play in case of injury in the Super 12.

The names will only be made available to the coaches of the regional teams. The idea is to not create unnecessary expectation.

Viljoen told Business Day that the list was only a guide. "The main purpose of the list is to broaden the line of communication between the Springbok coaching staff and the Super 12 coaches," he said.

"The Super 12 coaches are under no obligation to select any players from the list as it merely provides an insight into our (the national coaches) thinking."

Viljoen met the Bok players last night to discuss their contracts. It is believed the value and length of the contracts were discussed, as well as an exit clause enabling Sarfu to end a player's contract within a month of him being dropped. Viljoen's first workshop with a possible Bok squad starts on Friday.
