Cats get through trials unscathed
January 29, 2001

Laurie Mains breathed a huge sigh of relief after the Cats' trial games at Wits on Saturday as no names were added to the side's already long injury list.

All the players involved in the games showed that they were in top form. Top of the injury list are Kleinjan Tromp, Heinrich Kok, Leon Boshoff, Grant Esterhuizen and Andre van Niekerk, who are all battling with groin problems.

The Cats coach has kept Andre Vos (neck), Thinus Delport (concussion) and Werner Swanepoel (shoulder operation) on the sidelines to give them an opportunity to recover completely.

"It's going to be a tough season. I decided to rest everyone with injury problems to give them a chance to recover in time for the Cats' first Super 12 game against the Stormers," he told Rapport. "It's very important that we have all our players available."

Mains will not name his final squad of 30 until everyone is fit. There are currently four extra players with the training squad.
