Jones warning on law changes
January 29, 2001

ACT Brumbies coach Eddie Jones has stepped up the war of words on proposed line-out changes and decoy running ahead of the Super 12, accusing the International Rugby Board of mistakenly trying to turn back the clock.

Jones claimed IRB plans to crackdown on decoy running could force the Brumbies - losing Super 12 finalists to the Crusaders last year - to change the style of play that made them the most entertaining and innovative team in the competition.

``What we're hearing is quite frightening,'' Jones told AFP. ``I really am concerned for the future of the game.

"If some of these suggestions [go ahead] about the game going back to line-outs without lifting, tackling under the hips and not being able to have decoy runners, we've all got concerns for the structure of the game.

``Why they want to change the laws to come up with a game that's going to be
slower and have more stoppages, I just can't understand."
