Sharks unveil new look
February 9, 2001

The Sharks will be seen in a completely new guise in the Super 12 this season.

For away games, the Sharks two-colour jersey will be predominantly silver on the chest areas on top of a black base with white trimmings. For home matches the jersey colours will be reversed.

The new look was revealed at Absa Stadium in Durban on Thursday night and is a radical departure from the old black and white strip that the team usually wears. Following a new five-year deal with the New Zealand-based clothing company Canterbury, the Sharks will be wearing designer gear woven from material that is comfortable in all playing conditions - from very hot to more chilly climes.

The brand name is Temex and it is said to be an innovative fabric especially made for rugby. The new strip has been designed as an appealing product in which the image of a menacing shark is conveyed through the colour scheme.

National sales manager Wayne Stanford said: "We steered away from any aspect of provincialism in coming up with the final product that will not only enhance the appearance of the Sharks on the field, but which will keep them comfortable at all times." For Currie Cup matches the Natal Sharks, will revert to the more traditional black and white gear of the past. - Sapa
