Paulse on form in SA warm-ups
February 10, 2001

The Sharks beat the Cats 26-19 in Durban on Friday night, while Breyton Paulse ran in four tries as the Stormers downed Boland 45-19.

Although the Sharks would be happy with a warm-up win ahead of the Super 12, not too much can be read into the result as both coaches rang the changes in the second half after the Sharks had led 13-12 at halftime.

The stars of the night were the Cats wingers Dean Hall and Wylie Human as well as Rassie Erasmus, while Albert van den Berg - who scored a 50-metre intercept try - and new 21-year-old fly-half Herkie Kruger shone for the Sharks.

Sharks coach Rudolph Straeuli would have breathed a sigh of relief that former Springbok centre Andre Snyman came through 40 minutes unscathed after an 18-month lay-off.

While in Wellington (New Zealand), the Springboks Seven was making its way towards victory over Wales in the Bowl final, in Wellington (SA), the final scoreline flattered the Stormers as they ran in three late tries.

The Stormers raced to a 19-0 lead, but Boland then capitalised on their errors, making the scores level at 19-all at the break.

While the Stormers forwards weren't convincing, their backs impressed, with De Wet Barry (2) and Paulse (4) proving devastating in attack.
