Joost, Franco not leaving Bulls
February 12, 2001

Bulls teammates Joost van der Westhuizen and Franco Smith have reaffirmed their commitment to the Super 12 side and denied any links to Welsh club Newport.

Smith, who played for the Welsh club last season, will be playing for the Pumas this year. He plans to prove his worth in the Super 12 in order to make it back into the Springbok team. He last played for the national team in 1999.

According to Beeld, both Van der Westhuizen and Smith have a clause in their provincial contracts that allows them to leave after the Super 12. Smith does not intend to use the clause though as he also wants to play in the Currie Cup to try to impress Springbok coach Harry Viljoen.
