Mains threatens shake up
February 12, 2001

Cats coach Laurie Mains has warned that up to three Springboks could be booted out of the squad after a disappointing 26-19 loss to the Sharks in a friendly in Durban on Friday night.

"I'm looking for aggression and dedication. Those who cannot give that must leave.

"What the players have achieved in the past counts for nothing. All that matters is what is happening now," he told Rapport.

Mains was particularly disappointed with the forwards' performances. "Some of the forwards are not performing, although I exclude the loosies. They played well," Mains told Supersport Zone.

He said that the biggest problem against the Sharks was they failed to exploit first-phase possession and were forced to try to create opportunities out of second-phase play.

The Cats play the Lions in their final warm-up match on Wednesday. Mains will be looking for significant improvement ahead of their opening Super 12 game against the Stormers on February 26.
