February 16, 2001

The Heineken Cup winners could play the Super 12 champions in the latest attempt by the ARL to further rugby's appeal.

After a recent suggestion by ARL chief executive John O'Neill that England and France may want to abandon the Six Nations and join the Tri-nations series was rebuffed this is his latest idea for in intra-hemisphere clash.

He has also hinted that a challenge match between the Six Nations champions and the winners of the Tri-nations could also be on the cards.

Speaking in the Daily Telegraph O'Neill also said, after union's signing of league star Wendell Sailor, he believed that union would soon establish itself as the dominant rugby code.
