Krige backs Rassie to shine
February 22, 2001

Stormers captain Corne Krige believes the fact that Rassie Erasmus is leading the Cats side in their first Super 12 game of the season will make a big difference at Newlands on Saturday.

He said he did not read anything into Western Province's comprehensive Currie Cup victories over the Lions last year, even if the core of both those teams would be on display. Erasmus played in that game, but was carrying a groin injury.

"Johan Erasmus is captaining the Cats whereas Andre Vos led the Lions in the Currie Cup. Rassie has a major influence on the way they play and I think they'll be a lot more unpredictable," said Krige on Wednesday.

Krige also warned that the match may be a potentially ugly physical battle. "There's no doubt that it's going to be physical and it may spill over," Krige noted.

"We have a stigma attached to us for some reason that we're not a physical side and most teams will attack us in that way. We'd obviously love to rid ourselves of that tag," he added.
