Wise up Viljoen tells Super 12 sides

Springbok coach Harry Viljoen says the key to Vodacom Rugby Super 12 success is for the four South African teams to play smarter.

Viljoen makes the comment in the first installment of a new weekly column that will appear exclusively on the Official SARFU internet site each Tuesday.

"The Australian teams, as a trio, did this at the weekend. South Africa's quartet were not as convincing - and it is an area of our play that we must continue to work on," Viljoen writes.

"It is always difficult to make a judgement on the South African teams when they play each other first-up because invariably the physical aspect of the contest dominates the skill level.

"South African teams, when playing each other, don't place enough emphasis on playing smartly. It is a mindset we have to break down if we are to consistently match and beat the best teams in the world. Hopefully, things will change this weekend when our teams play Australian and New Zealand opposition," he writes.
