Bulls scare Hurricanes
March 3, 2001

The Bulls will clearly be no pushover this season. In a scrappy, error-strewn game at Wellington's Westpac Stadium they were eventually overcome by the Hurricanes, 26-20, but were always competitive , particularly in defence.

The Hurricanes have a lot of work still to do. Dangerous as ever out wide, they were too often disjointed and inaccurate with their passing. Under the sort of physical pressure which the Bulls subjected them to , they did not have easy answers , and coaches Mourie and Williams will be working hard in the next week before the Stormers visit.

The Bulls made a confident start, Dion Waller's rush around the side of a ruck giving Caspar Steyn the first kick at goal , which he missed. Good ball control and driving from the Bulls' forwards served as an early warning to the Hurricanes that this was going to be very competitive.Interference right in front of the posts, on the 22, gave Steyn a much easier second chance. This time he did not miss.
