De Beer set to return to England
March 5, 2001

Springbok flyhalf Jannie de Beer has accepted the fact that he is unlikely to play international rugby again and will move to England to play club rugby there.

The 30-year-old De Beer, whose five drop goals against England in the 1999 World Cup quarterfinal against England will stick in the memory banks forever, will leave next week after accepting a two-month trial contract from am unnamed club.

The former Blue Bull, who has been out of action since injuring his knee in May last year, said his decision was nothing more than a business move. He admitted he had the opportunity to stay in South Africa and play for a smaller union, but decided against that option.

He also rejected the contract the Blue Bulls offered him as he was unhappy with the terms.
