Queensland skills coach Alex Evans insists harmony within the Reds is good and is not to blame for his decision to scale back his involvement with the team.

The former Welsh and Wallaby assistant coach will take on a broader role with the Queensland Rugby Union and work more closely with the State's emerging talent.

Evans denied suggestion he had threatened to resign on several occasions at the start of new coach Mark McBain's reign.

"I felt I was being under utilised, so this gives me a fresh direction and focus," Evans said. "I'll still work with individual Reds players on a one-on one basis, but the actually coaching of the squad will be left to Mark McBain and Roger Gould.

"There was no threatening, I just sought more involvement. It really was a case of not having enough to do and the QRU felt I could be more valuable in other areas.

"John Connolly involved me a lot more than Mark but that's his right as the coach. It's very difficult for Mark as well. He's in his first year of provincial coaching and he wants to put his own stamp on it.

"Morale in the team is great, the entire squad is working hard to be a force in the Super 12 and I am looking forward to continuing to work with the players for the rest of the season. There's no disharmony with the players - they badly want to win the Super 12."
