Briggs and Miller not fit until Highlanders clash

Having got their first win of the 2001 campaign against the Queensland Reds last weekend, there is disappointing news for the Chiefs as they prepare to do battle with the Crusaders in Christchurch.

Both prop David Briggs and fullback Todd Miller are unlikely to be fit until the home game against the Highlanders in round six.Openside flanker Duncan Blaikie - whose cheekbone surgery last week went well - is another who won't be ready until the Highlanders game.

It is unlikely that halfback Rhys Duggan will be back before the Cats game on April 8, round seven of the competition.

However, the Chiefs' performance against the Reds showed there is no shortage of determination in the squad and coach John Mitchell is the last man to use injuries as an excuse for unsatisfactory performances.
