Umaga warns Stormers of rampant Lomu
March 7, 2001

Hurricanes centre Tana Umaga believes that the Stormers are going to be on the wrong end of an improving Jonah Lomu when the two sides line-up in Wellington on Friday.

"I can tell the Stormers now that he's only had one game since coming back and he's only going to get better," Umaga told the Cape Times. "The big guy is raring to go. We're thrilled to have him back to full fitness. Now it's up to us to create the opportunities for him."

Umaga, 27, also aired his concerns about the Hurricanes' disappointing start to this year's campaign. "It was a disappointing display against the Bulls, but you can be sure we will play a big one when called upon to do so. We just need to fine-tune a few things. At the same time we can't afford to take our time about it. The Stormers will be smarting after their two defeats and there's no doubt this is the biggest one for us so far this season.

"The Crusaders have shown in the past that you don't have to be too quick out of the starting blocks. But the one thing you shouldn't do is lose your home games. It's very important that we make them count," he added.

Of the personal challenge ahead of him on Friday night he commented, "Clearly I'll have to work on my distribution. It's been a bit of a baptism of fire for me and now I'll be up against Robbie Fleck. I rate him and Daniel Herbert as the world's best outside centres. Fleckie is a very aggressive player."
