Terblanche back for Sharks
March 7, 2001

Springboks Warren Brosnihan and Stefan Terblanche are back in the Sharks squad for the Super 12 game against the Highlanders at Absa Stadium in Durban on Saturday, but fellow Bok Andre Snyman has dropped out.

Both Brosnihan and Terblanche missed the Sharks' victory over the Brumbies on Saturday due to injury. Wing Terblanche hurt a muscle in his neck, while Brosnihan suffered from a bump against the head against the Bulls.

Sharks coach Rudolph Straeuli has included 23 players in the squad and is expected to trim it down to 22 on Wednesday, when he will also announce his starting line-up. On Tuesday, however, he hinted that the starting line-up wouldn't differ too much from the one that beat the Brumbies.

The coach said he would rather give Snyman, who is in the throes of a comeback after two debilitating ankle injuries, a full game for the Natal Wildebeest than five minutes for the Sharks.

"Andre will play for the Wildebeest against the Mighty Elephants. I've given him five minutes here and there and he has played in the warm-up games, so he is ready. The big consideration now, however, is that I don't want to change our centre combination of Trevor Halstead and Deon Kayser.

"So it would be more advantageous for Andre to play a full match than to keep him on the bench and maybe give him five minutes of game time," Straeuli explained. "Stefan (Terblanche) is fit again and that gives me a bit of depth there. So we'd rather give Andre game time for the Wildebeest."

The coach said he would use Tuesday's contact session to weigh up a few options before finalising his starting line-up on Wednesday. "The guys have trained hard, but I just want to have a look at a few things before making up my mind about the starting line-up. I see the Highlanders have a few tricks up their sleeves," he said.

Straeuli said the Vodacom Cup game is also an opportunity for him to have a look at contenders for places in the Sharks squad before they depart overseas. "That game is an opportunity to look at guys like Vorster Venter and Jacques Greeff from the Elephants before we go overseas. They are in my region and it would be good to see them in a game situation again."

Brosnihan and Terblanche are set to slot straight back into the starting line-up. Brosnihan will probably replace AJ Venter at No 8, with the latter shifting to the side of the scrum in place of Warren Britz.

Brad Macleod-Henderson looks like the unfortunate player who will have to drop out completely, with Britz back on the bench. Terblanche will take the place of Gus Theron on the wing.
