Tromp holds on to second row berth for Cats

Cats coach Laurie Mains has made one injury-enforced change to his 22-man squad for Saturday's Super 12 match against the Brumbies at Ellis Park.

Lock Jannes Labuschagne suffered a ligament injury in the convincing victory over the Highlanders on Saturday and Lions Vodacom Cup captain Russell Winter has been included on the substitutes' bench. The two-try hero against the Highlanders, Kleinjan Tromp, retains his place in the starting line-up after filling in with aplomb for Labuschagne last Saturday.

The latter had to leave the field in the first half and was later diagnosed as suffering a grade one ligament strain to his leg. Winter has featured as loose forward in the Lions' Vodacom Cup campaign thus far, but is equally adapt in the second row. He had been training with the Lions at Marks Park since Tuesday morning, so he should have no difficulty if Mains presses his number on Saturday.

Flank Andre Venter and centre Eugene Meyer were both included in the starting line-up on Wednesday. The duo failed to complete training on Monday, but apparently left the field solely as a precautionary measure. They also sat out Tuesday's session, but Mains said there was no reason for concern.

Venter had a tightening in his quads, while veteran centre Meyer felt a twinge in his hamstring. Good news for Cats' fans is that Werner Swanepoel, who is recovering from a fractured cheekbone, is training again and he aims to be back on the field soon.

"I want to play in the game against the Sharks at the end of the month, but if I cannot make it for that one I will definitely be ready to go on tour," the Springbok scrumhalf said.

Springbok wing Chester Williams is again on the substitutes' bench and Mains said he plans to give him a run on Saturday.

Cats team: Thinus Delport; Wylie Human, Grant Esterhuizen, Eugene Meyer, Dean Hall; Louis Koen, Chad Alcock, Andre Vos, Andre Venter, Johan Erasmus (capt), Kleinjan Tromp, Johan Ackermann, Willie Meyer, Leon Boshoff, Marius Mostert. Substitutes: Andre van Niekerk, Baksteen Nell, Piet Krause, Russell Winter, Chester Williams, Clinton van Rensburg, Jimmy Powell.
