Defeat won't get Stormers down

Carisbrook may have become the House of Pain for South Africans in the Super 12 again when the Stormers lost to the Highlanders 24-23 on Sunday, but the Cape side feel they have reason to be optimistic.

A try in injury time by wing Aisea Tuilevu in a frantic last minute of play denied Corne Krige's men their second successive victory in New Zealand. But Krige said the team are disappointed, but full of hope.

"I feel we played some good rugby and it certainly was an improvement on our previous matches in this year's Super 12. We kept the ball for longer periods and the lineouts and the scrums were much better," he told the Cape Times.

But the team were nevertheless disappointed. "We had enough opportunities to win the game. Braam van Straaten had the ball knocked out of his hands when he was clean through and there was also a missed chance between Breyton Paulse and Bob Skinstad," coach Alan Solomons said.

Solomons added that the team made too many silly little errors and the restarts weren't good. "But I still feel that we didn't deserve to lose the game," he said. "We would have liked to have had back-to-back wins in New Zealand, to give us the eight points we want from the tour, but we're not out of the race yet."

The Stormers play the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday.
