Flatley to miss clash with Larkham
March 26, 2001

Injury-prone Queensland Reds five-eighth Elton Flatley is expected to miss the Super 12 clash with the ACT Brumbies at Ballymore on Friday.

Fortunately for the Reds, news of Flatley's knee injury was offset by word that halfback Sam Cordingley should be fit to play.

The much-anticipated clash between Flatley and Wallaby ace Steve Larkham now won't eventuate after Flatley further hurt his knee during the Reds' 32-26 loss to the Crusaders in Christchurch on Friday.

"He copped a heavy knock on it and it didn't really stand up to the contact, so he needs either some surgery or some rest," Queensland team spokesman Peter Kelly said.

After losing three straight games to Kiwi teams in New Zealand, the Reds are lying ninth on the table. The good news for the Reds is that first-choice halfback Cordingley will be available for the first time this season after suffering a sternum problem in the pre-season.

And Shane Drahm is back earlier than expected from a fractured cheekbone and will vie with Nathan Spooner for the five-eighth and goalkicking duties.
