Percy to continue run at fly-half
March 26, 2001

Fedsure Stormers coach Alan Solomons could not find any problems with Percy Montgomery's performance at flyhalf during the loss to the Brumbies at the weekend and has decided to keep him in the position.

"I had an agreement with (Springbok coach) Harry Viljoen that I would give Percy a chance at flyhalf. I would like to give him a decent run in the position now," he told the Cape Times.

He will start at flyhalf against the Reds in George on Sunday. The Stormers have a bye this weekend.

"I think he and Neil (de Kock at scrumhalf) combined well. He also showed his ability to quickly sum up a situation and his try was a good example of that."

Though Robbie Fleck falling ill forced the move, Solomons said he had already planned to play Montgomery at flyhalf, as he originally wanted Braam van Straaten to rest.

"If we had put out the fact that Percy was going to play flyhalf he would have been inundated with calls from the media. It also brought an element of surprise, as the Brumbies thought we were going to play with Braam," said Solomons.
