Coetzee extends Exiles stay

Danie Coetzee has signed a two year extension to his contract at London Irish. The extension means he will be with the Exiles until the end of the 2008-09 season.

The 29 year old, former Springbok hooker joined London Irish in October 2005 and has made 27 appearances.

"This is a very significant re-signing for the club," said Brian Smith, London Irish Director of Rugby. "Since coming to England Danie has enhanced his reputation as a world class hooker. The partnerships he has forged with our props - Faan Rautenbach, who has also re-signed, Tonga Lea'aetoa, Richard Skuse and Neal Hatley have given us what is arguably one of the most dominant front rows in the Premiership. We're delighted that he has signed for another two seasons.

"We are currently looking for a quality replacement for Neal Hatley who will be retiring at the end of the season, as we want to maintain our push to be one of the most comprehensive packs in European club rugby," added Smith.

Commenting on his decision to continue to play his club rugby in Europe Danie Coetzee said: "I'm enjoying my rugby at London Irish and have settled into the London environment. We have a squad of good players and play a style of rugby that suits my game. I'm looking forward to the next two seasons."

London Irish will be announcing details of further re-signings and new signings over the coming weeks.
