Perpignan suffered a major injury scare on Saturday when South Africa's World Cup-winning fullback Percy Montgomery was forced to leave the field on the hour mark.

The initial concern from the French side, was that the injury could be connected to a knee injury which Montgomery suffered in the recent World Cup Final.

Montgomery has however insisted that the dead leg which he suffered in his sides impressive 23 -6 victory over London Irish is not related to his troubelsom knee.

"My substitution has nothing to do with my knee injury. It was just a dead leg which I had felt in the match," said Montgomery.

"I hope I can quickly recover to allow me to return to training and then go match-by-match."

The fullback was upbeat following his sides impressive win in somewhat trying conditions.

"The conditions weren't that easy but we stayed mentally strong until the end. I'm just happy to have won my first game."

Monty will be hoping for a speedy recovery as he sets to establsih himself in the French top division.
